These iconic towels have become an integral part of the action, witnessed on the court and on screen, match after match. Get ready to immerse yourself in the captivating world of Christy towels at Wimbledon.

The Christy story stretches all the way back to 1850 when the Manchester cotton mill began weaving the softest bath towels the world has ever seen. Christy has an impressive history, including the remarkable achievement of crafting the very first towel for the Queen of England. Loyal Christy customers associate us with a style that is inherently British and recognise us as a brand that has stood the test of time whilst evolving to meet the needs of our customers.

Originally, these remarkable towels were manufactured in Greater Manchester. However, in 2010, Welspun relocated the production to Vapi, Gujarat.

After doing so, they ensured that the towels maintained their luxurious and timeless qualities while providing a fresh perspective. Join us as we explore this captivating journey of collaboration and the remarkable evolution of these exceptional souvenir towels.

Welspun India Souvenir Towel - A Luxurious Memento of Fine Craftsmanship

Luxury, Sustainable, and Timelessness

The towels made for The Championships were not just fancy, but they were also eco-friendly. They carefully made about 5,000 towels that captured the spirit of the event. These towels were all about top-notch quality, style, and caring for the environment.

India at the Forefront

Welspun's experience with the Wimbledon collaboration has highlighted the prominent role played by the textile industry in India in various aspects, such as sourcing, manufacturing, supply chain management, and the startup ecosystem. The country's rise to prominence demonstrates its commitment to excellence and innovation.

Pioneering Sustainability

The towels produced for The Championships bear the Oeko-Tex MADE IN GREEN certification, assuring consumers that they have been manufactured without harmful substances and adhere to stringent ecological and social standards. Additionally, Christy is a proud member of the Better Cotton Initiative, which promotes fairer and more sustainable cotton production. To further reduce the environmental impact, Christy has eliminated all unnecessary plastic packaging, opting for FSC-certified card packaging instead.

Welspun and Wimbledon's Commitment to Water Sustainability

In a remarkable display of commitment to water sustainability, the Wimbledon Foundation pledged a generous donation of £1.2 million over three years to WaterAid. This impactful contribution aims to ensure that communities in Madagascar, Ethiopia, Malawi, and Myanmar have access to clean water, proper sanitation, and improved hygiene practices as an integral part of their daily lives.

Meanwhile, Welspun has achieved an extraordinary milestone by achieving complete independence from freshwater usage in their manufacturing plant located in Anjar. Through the implementation of a sewage treatment plant in Anjar and other sustainability initiatives, Welspun has successfully eliminated the need for freshwater consumption.

Design Inspiration behind the 2023 Championships

The opportunity to design the Championships Towel for Wimbledon is completely and utterly unique. It's a product that captures the attention of so many, whether they are lucky enough to be present on the iconic tennis courts or watching the match on their television screens.

Each year, we introduce a stylish new color alongside the consistent Championship colors, which often spark lively debates among fans. The context plays a pivotal role: the design possesses strength and simplicity, ensuring it looks impressive yet distinctive even from a distance, while the colours must exude brilliance both on the court and when captured by the camera.

This year’s pink towel is a brave, bold, high-energy punch of colour that will really pop! We called these shades High Energy Pinks, as they align with the trend of uplifting and vibrant tones that boost endorphins.

Eco-Conscious Packaging

Welspun, a leading textile company prioritizes sustainable packaging by incorporating FSC-certified paper packaging and introducing LDPE packaging containing 30-50% rLDPE content sourced from plastic packaging scrap generated in-house. This proactive approach helps reduce environmental impact and promote circularity.

To further contribute to waste reduction, Welspun ensures that packaging waste is sent to designated recycling companies for proper recycling and reintroduction into the system. In a single year, the company successfully recycled approximately 1,455 metric tonnes of plastic waste, making a significant positive impact on the environment.

The collaboration between Welspun, one of the leading towel brands in India, and Wimbledon not only showcases the blend of luxury and sustainability but also highlights India's growing prominence in various industries. Through their initiatives, Welspun and Wimbledon drive positive change, promote fairer practices, and make significant contributions to environmental conservation and community development.
